FACTUALITY is a facilitated dialogue, crash course, and interactive experience, that simulates structural inequality, in America.

Participants assume the identities of a diverse group of characters, encountering a series of fact based advantages & limitations based on the intersection of their race, class, gender, faith, sexual orientation, age, and ability.

FACTUALITY evokes empathy, increases cultural competence, & enhances self-awareness. Having reached over 55,000 global participants, spanning across six continents, in under seven years, FACTUALITY is arguably one of the easiest ways to engage diverse groups in conversations on diversity.

As the Founder & Facilitator of FACTUALITY, Natalie Gillard faces several challenges. To quote Gillard, “I develop and facilitate diversity initiatives... need I say more? Advancing social equity is often met with opposition between the national book bans, bans on usage of certain words, bans on classroom curriculum, executive bans, and everything that is directly impacted by the latter, it can be quite challenging to engage people in experiences that truly serve as personal and professional development... solely because diversity or a comparable word in the title.”

When FACTUALITY partnered with Thread, another Baltimore-based organization that revolves around creating social equity and education, Gillard received a box of customized swag. According to Gillard, the Sock Club custom socks that were included in the box “stole the show.”

Natalie was immediately impressed with the quality of the materials and design, and didn’t even consider an alternative when she was sourcing custom swag to give out to clients and participants at her talks.

The process, she said, was remarkably easy. It took a few brief exchanges and a couple of days before she had custom high-quality socks at her front door.

Gillard posted the finished custom sock design to her Instagram Stories simply because she was excited about the final product, and got an overwhelming response. “Suddenly, I am receiving DMs from people asking where they could be purchased! I never considered selling any merchandise and now I'll be launching an online store... and of course FACTUALITY socks will be available for purchase.”

Gillard said that those who have received the socks only have positive feedback and while they receive other branded gifts such as custom Yetis, custom hand sanitizers, and custom tote bags, the socks continue to steal the show.

When we asked Gillard if she would order from Sock Club again, she said, “I will definitely be ordering more socks... next time, however, I will order a much larger quantity. These socks are truly a hit... I feel like one of those overly exaggerated people in an infomercial, but this is my truth... I love the Sock Club!”
