Founded in 2016 by then-18-year-old Claire Coder, Aunt Flow is a company that provides period products in businesses, schools, and other public restrooms. A representative for Aunt Flow spoke on the unique challenges they face in their industry. “Since Aunt Flow is a company that focuses on providing menstruators with tampons and pads, we often find some prospective customers are... uncomfortable with the subject matter. Not out of objection or ignorance, but simply because this is an issue many of them have not had to confront firsthand. As much as we want to make sales and earn their business, we also want to educate them on menstrual equity and how we can all help make the world better for people with periods.”
They also stated that another common pain point they experience when it comes to promoting Aunt Flow is getting people to realize that period poverty is not a “women’s” issue, but a health issue. “Once we realize that a lack of access to period products negatively affects not only someone's health but also the rest of their lives, we can truly make progress.”
